American Matt Every has a two-stroke lead at the halfway mark of the Sony Open in Hawaii after carding a six-under par 64 on Friday.

The 28-year-old from Florida was in superb touch at the Waialae Country Club, with five birdies on the front nine seeing him to nine under the card after his first-round 66.

He could add only one more birdie after the turn, but that was enough to move him to 10 under the card and a two-stroke lead over Canadian David Hearn and Swede Carl Pettersson, who shot 66 and 67 respectively to sit on eight under.

Zimbabwe's Brendon de Jonge carded a sizzling 62 to pull level with American duo Doug LaBelle II and Pat Perez on seven under.

Ten Americans are tied for seventh on six under - with Keegan Bradley joining Kyle Stanley, Bud Cauley, Charles Howell III, Sean O'Hair, William McGirt, Jeff Maggert, Spencer Levin, Johnson Wagner and Kris Blanks.

Steve Stricker, who took out the PGA Tournament of Champions in Maui on Monday, is a shot further back on five under.
