While many locals will be at Clearwater this week for the BMW NZ Open nine Australians will tee up at the US PGA Tour's final Qualifying School in California hoping to secure employment on the world's richest tour for the 2012 season.

Steve Allan, Steven Bowditch, Nathan Green, Matthew Jones, Bronson La'Cassie, Jarrod Lyle, James Nitties and Andre Stolz will join 164 other hopefuls at the PGA West Nicklaus and Stadium courses for what is considered the toughest golf tournament in the world.

Played over six rounds with no cut, the top 25 finishers and ties will earn exempt status for the 2012 season on the US PGA Tour.

Other notables in the field include Sam Saunders, grandson of Arnold Palmer, two time US Open champion Lee Janzen and rising Korean stars Sang Moon Bae and Seung-Yul Noh.

The event starts tomorrow and finishes Monday Australian time. For all scores and news log on to www.pgatour.com.

I note the article states 9 but only lists 8. Craig Hocknull is another Aussie in the field who lives in Arizona and is a trick shot artist. He went to The Kooralbyn International School and was perhaps the first golfer from there to go to a US College on a scholarship.
