Fowler in winning form
Tuesday, 8 May 2012
The seemingly evergreen Peter Fowler will like his chances at the opening event of the European Seniors Tour in Mallorca this week after blitzing the field at the Swanbury Penglase South Australian Senior PGA Championship.
It was the 53-year-old's second consecutive win in the event, one of the flagship tournaments on the E-Z-GO PGA Legends Tour, and the victory last year catapulted him to one of the most successful seasons of his professional career.
Fowler registered two wins and 13 top 10 finishes in 18 events in Europe in 2011 and looks to be in excellent form again heading into the 2102 season.
His win in South Australia came on the back of a blistering final round 66 and he said afterwards he was very happy with the state of his game.
“I played really well today and when I was in a bit of trouble I was able to rescue the situation.
"I made a great up and down on the 8th to save par and consolidate my good start, I then followed that with two straight birdies and that obviously put me into a strong position.
"I am very pleased to defend my title and must thank the sponsors Swanbury Penglase, along with Adelaide Shores and Pete Ormsby for all his hard work in putting together this event.”
Overnight leader Rodger Davis, himself in a purple patch after notching three wins in three starts on the South Australian swing, struggled to a 74 in the second round and finished in a share of 7th.
